Or rather, when release dates collide. We’re all too familiar with the typical “holiday rush”, where a number of overhyped “A” titles show up within a short time of each other.
MMOGs take a long time to develop, and only a short time to disappear. Over at bit-tech, they look at success and failure in the world of online gaming. However…
Over at crispygamer, Troy S. Goodfellow decided to get political. Or at least, come up with 10 games he thinks “have lessons for people interested in foreign policy”. Presuming, of course, there are people interested in foreign policy.
3D Realms (or what’s left of it) has come out fighting over the lawsuit filed by Take-Two last week.
So maybe Duke Nukem will go on forever, after all. In court, if not on computer. Take Two is now suing Apogee over, apparently, the non-completion of DNF.
Not the real one, of course. The in-game, Ultima Lord British. Crispygamer has posted the second half of their interview with Richard Garriott, and part of it deals with bloodthirsty players.
Matters seem to have gone from bad to worse in the Aventurine vs. Eurogamer affair, which I mentioned the other day in More Dirt Flies. In a lengthy post on the boards, Aventurine gives details and explains why they aren’t in favor of a “re-review” of Darkfall.
So it’s over for 3D Realms. The BBC is reporting that the company has shut down, and Joe Siegler has confirmed it on the 3D forums.
