Over at bit-tech, Simon Hill has up a column on his experiences as a beta tester. It’s an interesting read, although I wasn’t surprised by the article.
We’ve had some discussions here before about MMOGs, especially the fantasy variety: the grind, the emphasis on “kill, loot, level”, the obsessive playing, the eternal hunt for “good drops”. In China, they do things differently.
Well, the year’s almost over (already??). And while I’m not into the “big list of best games” stuff, there’s nothing wrong with noting what games were the most and least fun to play.
These days, what kids do online is a big item. Everyone from self-appointed watchdog groups to parents to marketers want to know what children are up to on the ‘net. One media firm decided to find out.
On his blog the other day (Christmas Eve, actually), Coyote put up a post on magic/magic items in RPGs. He was “inspired” after browsing through the “Magic Item Compendium” for Dungeons & Dragons.
Over at Gamespot, they have an interesting article up on the pains and perils of pitching a game.
