Taking a break from all the “heavy” stuff we’ve been doing lately, today I bring you…puffery! Or at least, word that Coyote has finally released his demo - excuse me, pilot ;) - of Frayed Knights. The link below will take you directly to the download page. Nothing is said there, however, as to how large a file this is (Coyote?). I do know it’s too big for dial-up (ahem). Anyway, those on broadband, go check it out.
Over on his blog, Coyote has stepped into the “drama discussion”, using movies as a basis. I can’t agree with that, because there’s a big difference between the movie hero and the game hero.
Today on his blog, Gareth has posted an update to the save/restore business we looked at in Save Me Again. And so we find out what he wants to accomplish.
The Martians landed. In 1942. In Siberia. Now it’s up to Stalin and the Red Army to stop them. You just know this real-time strategy game is coming from a Russian developer ;)
I’ve been giving some serious consideration to the matter of non-combat skills in CRPGs. Of course, that was brought about by last Friday’s post on Save Me Again. Do we want them, and if so, what function do they serve?
Over on his blog today, Gareth Fouche (Scars Of War designer) has a post up on ways of breaking the save/restore cycle outside of the usual “everyone dies in combat” situation.
Coyote’s blog post today is about spies. He begins with a discussion of a real spy, Mike Ramsdell, author of “A Train to Potevka”. Along the way, we learn that most intelligence work is done by middle-aged men rather than James Bond types.
Today, rpgcodex has up an interview with Vince Weller, the man behind the upcoming Age Of Decadence. This one is more on the technical side of things, but a couple of remarks surprised me.
