Over at next-gen, Randy Smith has an interesting article up on how more and more games are “hand-holding”, making it easy for players to know where to go and what to do next, keeping them from making “big mistakes”.
Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Yet, after reading an article on gamesetwatch by Michael Zenke, that may well be the truth.
Blame it on Diablo 3. Following all that buzz brought the earlier game to mind, along with the fact that I hadn’t played it in almost two years.
So the Diablo fans can breathe easier now. I was following with some amusement the postings on a couple of boards. Ah, the arguments over what the changing splash page was showing! Of course, now they have other things to argue about, but they’re happy to be vindicated.
I couldn’t read the official D3 site, since it’s done up in Flash (thanks SO much, Blizzard), even the FAQ. I did get details from the diablofans site. Links included to both places. At first glance, looks to be bigger and flashier. Will it be better? Only time will tell.
On his blog the other day, Coyote mused about “breaking up the routine” in RPGs. I don’t know why he bothered, because it’s a topic that’s come up so many times before.
With three little newsbits to put up, I decided it was better to stuff them all in one post than have three cluttering up the place. And no, the Blizzard announcement is not about D3 ;).
If you’re playing Hellgate: London, you may not want to go past the “more” prompt, because this discusses a major spoiler. On the other hand, if you’re just thinking about HG:L, you probably do want to read on.
Awhile back, in Diablo3?, I mentioned that Blizzard’s obtaining the fansite diablo3.com had set off speculation the company would be announcing Diablo 3 in the near future. Right now, that speculation is reaching fever pitch.
