The other day, in Speaking Of Savage…, I noted the enormous number of complaints on Amazon over Spore‘s DRM. Now, according to a post on 1up, it seems the backlash has set in.

Yes, it’s up on the torrents, and yes, it’s a cracked version that doesn’t limit installs. While Spore is topping the sales charts, it’s also topping the piracy charts.

So once again, we see that loathesome DRM practices do nothing but hurt the honest purchaser. Of course, EA won’t admit anything. Corporations never do. And it’s unlikely they’ll change anything about the DRM. But I would not be surprised to learn that many of those illegal downloads are by people who would have bought the game had the DRM been less restrictive.
