Merry Christmas!! Today DW and kids go over to the DW’s parents for a day of games and idleness. Yay idleness!
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Luke 2:8-14 (KJV)
Merry Christmas, Everyone.
Dunno about you guys, but I’m enjoying the Christmas by Gaming!
I found Guitar Hero 2 and Kingdom Hearts (the original, which I never played) under the tree. Yes, PS2 games. :)
I wish a wonderful day to everyone, however you choose to spend it!
Merry Christmas! At least people are saying it this year.
Merry Christmas! I got the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD, cologne, and pajama pants. I gave my wife a diamond necklace.
My kids cleaned up. Their 4 and 2 so Santa is real to them and Christmas is fun for me because of them.
I used to hate Christmas, and spent the time from Thanksgiving till after the New Year in a depressive funk that was so bad it was all I could do to go to work. It was always a reliefe when mid-January came around and the holiday crap was gone and over.
However, now a days I look forward to it and spending it with my family.
So I’ll say it again - Merry Christmas. And no, I won’t say Happy Holidays cause thats a cop out. It’s Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug. Take your pick. :)
Vag, sounds like you had a really great Xmas. Good for you and your family.
But I can’t agree that “Happy Holidays” is a copout. That phrase has been around a long time. Just the way “Season’s Greetings” has been (at least on cards).
Say what you feel.
But “Happy Holidays” is plural. It’s only a one day holiday. :P
To me, “Happy Holiday” is meant to not offend someone who doesn’t believe in Christmas. It’s like an atheistic view of the holiday. It also is generic enough to apply to any holiday. To me, I say “Merry Christmas” because that’s the holiday. I also say, “Happy Kwanza” and any other holiday and am not offended when someone says it to me whether or not I believe their religion is right or not.
I’m all about the concept that if I’m not offending someone - then I’m doing something wrong. Everyone needs offended, or we’re doomed as a species.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
My girls (3 yr old twins) did way too good. I believe my basement doubles as the auxillary stockroom for Toys R Us.
Ah no, it also includes New Year’s, which comes a mere one week later.
Most cards I’ve seen over the years with HH or SG reference both Xmas and New Year’s inside.
But hey, let’s not argue semantics here. As I said, say what you feel is the right thing.
Joseph, sell a few old ones on Ebay when the kids aren’t looking. This will help pay for the new toys ;)
Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas (for those who celebrate it :) )!
Vag, I got the original SW trilogy on DVD, too! But no pajama pants, darn it all.
I got Gothic II, GUN, and FEAR for my Christmas gaming goodness. When I opened GUN and Fear I had to laugh. How festive, blowing bad guys away!
Naturally I celebrated by trying them all!
On an interesting note, I got FEAR from my 11 year old daughter, who purchased it with her own money at the store. I found it strange that they sold an 11 year old an “M” rated game, but I guess it was because it was obvious she was buying it for me (I was with her at the time and she took great care to hide it inside a folded up store ad.) Still…
And to address the slightly controversial:
When I say “Happy Holidays” it’s meant to include all holidays celebrated by folks at that time of year. Though I celebrate Christmas, I know other folks have other holidays so I’d like to include everyone, not just one group or faith. When I’m talking to someone I know celebrates Christmas I’ll say “Merry Christmas” and when I’m talking to someone I know celelbrates Hanukkah I’ll say “Happy Hanukkah”. But if I don’t know, or if I’m addressing a group, it’s “Happy Holidays”. It’s not meant to offend anyone but instead to include everyone.
Hey all,
Sorry that I made such an issue over the term “Happy Holiday”. My statements are actually leveled at myself. I don’t really mind other people who say it or say it to me. I just personally like to say the acutal holiday whether it’s Christmas, New Years, Easter, Flag Day, Veteran’s Day. That’s just me.
Rereading my above posts I come accross way too harsh. I sorry for that. I tend to be a passionate person and that passion sometimes gets away from me. Happy Holidays everyone.
Heh, The only reason my post was titled “Happy Holidays” is that on Xmas Day there was a small banner at the top with “Merry Christmas” in candy cane-striped letters. Since I also had it in the post, I felt three times would be over-doing it ;)
And don’t forget the cute little bobble hanging from the scorpion’s tail. :)
I guess mentioning Bing Crosby’s film “Holiday Inn” won’t help?
It were a treat any holiday.
