Most of you know (or should know ;) Ron (“Monkey Island”) Gilbert. He’s now working with Hothead Games on Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

The game is based on the web comic Penny Arcade Adventures, something I haven’t heard of before this. Apparently, it’s an irreverent spoof of the game industry and video games generally.

They will be following the Sam & Max model, releasing segments via download over a period of time. There is no mention as yet if a “full season” will be released on DVD in the future.

Unusual for games these days, they will have versions not only for Windows, but Mac and Linux as well.

It’s nice to see Ron at work again. The only thing that perturbs me (besides the digital distribution) is that Penny Arcade is billed as (gak) “action/adventure”. You just can’t get away from “action” these days.

(Hmm, but just imagine if they could get Meretzky as well…I don’t think the world would be ready for that…ever ;)
