Over at 1up, they have a piece on the one game you’d take if you were stranded on a desert island. No broadband, so no MMOGs. Just one game to play for who-knows-how long.

After thinking it over, I decided that I wouldn’t choose any game at all. The strategy ones are out; they just aren’t my type. Shooters get old rather quickly. And the RPGs, well, those do, too, though it may take awhile longer.

For me, there comes a point when any RPG, however extensive, is squeezed dry. This is the problem I discussed in Why I Can’t Go Home Again: once I’ve done it all, it’s time to move on.

Of course, a strategy game like one of the Civs would provide a lot of replayability. Even so, I believe there comes a time when you will burn out on a game, however much it can be played.

This is true, even if you had a mod builder, such as the toolset for Neverwinter Nights. You built the game, you know all about it, where’s the fun in playing?

No, I think I’d skip the game, and take a book. Which one? Well, there’s always the complete works of Shakespeare. And maybe I’d try to sneak another one. Hmm, that would be interesting. Which one? That requires some serious thought.

What about you? Would you take that “one game”, and if so, which? Or would you rather read?
