We all do it. The minute we enter that crypt, we’re poking around the coffins and sarcophagi, looking for anything to grab. Why not? Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with it.

In the real world, once upon a time, people believed the “afterlife” was a material place. So the dead were buried with their favorite items, weapons, and what not, along with food and drink.

From that belief, no doubt, came the idea that robbing the dead was a terrible thing to do. But hey, they’re dead. They don’t need that sword, that armor, that gold anymore.

So why keep it all hidden away? Besides, the dead don’t own anything. Of course, there’s the special case of the “sword for the worthy one”, where you have to prove you’re “worthy” of that neato weapon and fight the guardian to get it.

Most of the time, though, it’s just a matter of rummaging through the corpses for anything to use or sell. They’re not going to miss the stuff. If they needed something “elsewhere”, it certainly wouldn’t be in the coffin with them.

And it’s not like we’re hauling off bodies for nefarious purposes. We’re just heroes trying to make a buck as we save the world from evil (yet again). So yeah, why not rob the graveyard?
