I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone figured out a way of combining offline activities with online ones. But who’d have expected it to be in the realm of….housework?
Yes, cleaning up around the house, yard, office, or wherever. For real. This isn’t a “make believe” you’re cleaning up; you really do it, and then get rewarded online, so you can fight monsters (Zombie Dust Bunnnies, maybe?).
This is called Chore Wars. Its purpose is to make those tedious and obnoxious hours of “straightening up the place” a little more fun. The game (is it a game?) is free, along with a premium version that goes for a one-time payment of $10.
Can’t get the kids to keep their rooms clean? Take out the trash? Help with the dishes? Mow the lawn? Maybe this could help. Or maybe not. You never know with kids.
Or adults, for that matter. Anyway, it’s certainly an interesting concept. Check out the link and see what you think about this.
Interesting concept, though my wife would probably say that I play an evil character, who creates more chores than they do…
I know of a indie Dev company that is trying to use Chore Wars to get their volunteers to actually complete tasks.
Whatever.
If so, good luck to them. Though I have my doubts in that regard. In their place, I might consider looking for better volunteers.
I agree Coyote. I worked with them for a bit and finally left in frustration. Too many hanger-ons wanting to say they are on a team without doing any work.
I no longer think a indie game can be made with an all volunteer team. Better to do it yourself and hire a hired gun if you get stuck than deal with volunteer’s who will probably sue you for money if you actually make it to market.
Keep the volunteers in the mod world.
