Yes, good news in terms of money. CD Projekt RED announced today that The Witcher has sold over 600,000 copies since its release.
That’s an incredible number for a small studio. A small, relatively unknown one, at that. Of course, the game received many good reviews, but that doesn’t always help.
I think what really did it for this game was the content, and doing things somewhat differently than the usual RPG. The moral ambiguity, the fact that certain quests had an impact later in the game, not just at the end – stuff we’ve talked about before that’s been missing in RPGs.
It could be that the success of Witcher will help freshen up the genre for future games from other developers. The sales make it obvious that there are a lot of players ready for games like this one.
Cool!
I still haven’t managed to find someone willing to ship me the UK version. Grrr.
I’ve played the Demo, and it was amazing: good gameplay, good balancing and very good graphics. When i have enoigh time, i will buy the game.
I thought there really wasn’t much difference in the uncensored version anyway. You get a card for every woman you have relations with in the game. The UK version has nudity on the card, the US version doesn’t.
Vagabond, you might want to check GoGamer. They have the UK import version listed but still not available yet.
