We don’t usually think of Thailand in connection with games or high-end multimedia. So it comes as a bit of a shock to learn that a quarter-billion dollar facility is being built in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai.

Yes, you read that right: it’s a $250-million-dollar project, financed partly by the Thai government and a consortium of entrepreneurs. This covers more than just games, however.

It’s a true multi-media center, to include a state-of-the-art film/television studio and IT production complex. Later additions, among others, will be a theme park, and a 3D animation education center.

They certainly have big plans for this place. Will it pan out? There’s a lot of money riding on this one, and it will be interesting to see what comes of it.
